Sewing Bee for the Green Wedding at the Art Intervention Conference
On May 14th through the 17th, UCSC at Porter College had a tremendous conference, the Intervene! Interrupt! Art as a Social Practice. This conference culminated with a Green Wedding celebration and exchanging of vows to local artists, Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens, in the Shakespeare Glen on campus.
This year is the fourth of seven years of weddings. For more information on Annie and Beth current focus, visit their website: loveartlab.org.
One of the first activities for the conference and the Green Wedding was a Sewing Bee hosted by Beth and Annie in the Porter Faculty Gallery. This gathering created beautiful clothes and accessories for the brides. A wonderful group of people came together to sew, glue, talk and eat.

It was a great beginning for a hugely successful conference. Artists and theorists came from all over the world to perform and discuss. I’m still processing.
